A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Town of Ackley in Wisconsin on November 7, 2024. The request, made by NC Wisconsin News, sought details about voters who registered on the same day as the election.
As part of our commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at NC Wisconsin News requested a list of new registrations for voters that registered to vote on November 5, 2024. This request was made under the Wisconsin Open Records Law, §19.31 et seq., and we expressed a preference for receiving this information in an electronic format.
Our role as media professionals involves gathering and reporting news to the public. Access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. In light of our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as media professionals.
