The Boulder Junction Public Library will be offering a Fall Book Walk starting now at the Boulder Junction Public Library Reading Garden and Boulder Junction Community Sports and Recreation Park, 5358 Park Street (Highway M), Boulder Junction.

A Book Walk is a fun, educational activity that places a children’s story (literally a book taken apart) along a popular walking route in a community. Conceived as a way to inspire parents, teachers, and caregivers to take young children out of doors for physical activity and to learn, a Book Walk helps build children’s interest in reading while encouraging healthy activity for both adults and children.

The library will have laminated 2-page spreads of the book mounted on stands starting at the Library Reading Garden, across the driveway to the path by the skate park and basketball courts, past the playground, then along the path around the baseball diamond. Directional arrows will point readers in the right direction.

The book the library has chosen for the Fall Book Walk is “If You Find a Leaf” written by Aimee Sicuro. An exquisite picture book that celebrates the fall season and encourages children to see the colorful leaves around them in an entirely new way. The artist uses real leaves of vibrant hues to make her oh-so-charming illustrations.

Every year, gusts of wind blow colorful autumn leaves to the ground. Some leaves make a crunch under foot, and others are so beautiful they deserve to be saved.

In this story, a young artist draws inspiration from the leaves she collects and every leaf sparks a new idea. She imagines turning a Japanese Zelkova leaf into a boat to sail far away, a Honey Locust leaf into a swing to sway in the gentle breeze, and an American Basswood leaf into a hot air balloon to float high above the trees.

If you have any questions about the Fall Book Walk, please call the library at 715-385-2050.
