A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Town of Antigo on November 7, 2024. The request, made by NC Wisconsin News, sought information regarding new voter registrations from the recent election held on November 5, 2024.
As a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at NC Wisconsin News believe in the importance of transparency and accountability in public institutions. We requested these records under the Wisconsin Open Records Law, §19.31 et seq., preferably in electronic format.
The request specifically asked for a list of new voters who registered to vote on Election Day. This data is crucial for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities which include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.
Given our role in disseminating information to the public, we also requested a fee waiver as a media professional. This waiver would enable us to access these important records without financial barriers.
We are awaiting a response from the Town of Antigo and will continue our efforts to bring clarity and transparency to local government actions.
