FOIA Request Sent to Iron County Election Department Regarding Upcoming Election Candidates on February 5, 2025

FOIA Request to Iron County Election Department Regarding Upcoming Election Candidates on February 5, 2025.

As part of our ongoing commitment to provide comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at NC Wisconsin News have submitted a request under the Wisconsin Open Records Law, §19.31 et seq., for information about the candidates running in the upcoming election.

The request, sent electronically to the Iron County Election Department, asks for a list of all candidates that are running for office in the forthcoming election. Specifically, we have asked for each candidate's first name, middle name, last name, the office they are running for, jurisdiction of the office and their party affiliation.

In addition to this basic information about each candidate, we have also requested contact details for each individual. This includes their address, phone number and email address.

We believe that access to public records is essential in fulfilling our professional responsibilities as journalists. These responsibilities include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information to the public, we consider ourselves eligible for a fee waiver as media professionals.

We will continue our efforts to gather and report news that serves our community's interest and promotes transparency in local government affairs. We await a response from the Iron County Election Department regarding our request.
