Iron County Education: Which district had most students enrolled in schools in 2022-23 school year

Hurley School District had the highest enrollment among Iron County districts, welcoming 546 students during the 2022-23 academic year, according to the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction.

Of all the students welcomed in the 2022-23 school year, 52.8% of them were boys, and 47.2% were girls.

Data also showed that most of the students were white, representing 92.9% of the Hurley School District's total enrollment.

Among the two districts in Iron County, Mercer School District ranked second in enrollment numbers with 123 students.

Hurley School District roughly covers schools within Iron County, with its main office in Hurley.

In the previous school year, Hurley School District also had the highest number of students among Iron County districts.

Nearly 830,000 students were enrolled in Wisconsin schools in the 2021-22 school year. This is a 0.85% decrease from the year before. In sharp contrast to declining public school figures, enrollment in charter schools rose 4.5% to more than 52,000.

In 2022, there was roughly one teacher for every 14 students in a Wisconsin classroom, compared to the national average of 1:16. AAA State of Play considered Wisconsin to have the 14th best teacher to student ratio in the U.S.
