A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Town of Emery, Wisconsin, regarding new voter registrations on November 7, 2024. The request was made by NC Wisconsin News, a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.
In the request, we asked for a list of new voters who registered to vote on November 5, 2024. As a media organization involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.
We believe that as a media professional group, we are eligible for a fee waiver under the Wisconsin Open Records Law, §19.31 et seq., which allows access to such information. We expressed our preference for receiving these records in an electronic format for ease of use and distribution.
Our goal at NC Wisconsin News is always to provide accurate and timely information about local government affairs. This data will help us inform our readers about voting trends and demographics in the Town of Emery during the recent election cycle.
