Merrill Area School District had the highest enrollment among Lincoln County districts, welcoming 2,798 students during the 2023-24 academic year, according to the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction.

Of all the students welcomed in the 2023-24 school year, 50.5% of them were girls, and 49.5% were boys.

Data also showed that most of the students were white, representing 93.9% of the Merrill Area School District's total enrollment.

Among the two districts in Lincoln County, Tomahawk School District ranked second in enrollment numbers with 1,142 students.

Merrill Area School District roughly covers schools within Lincoln County, with its main office in Merrill.

In the previous school year, Merrill Area School District also had the highest number of students among Lincoln County districts.

Nearly 830,000 students were enrolled in Wisconsin schools in the 2021-22 school year. This is a 0.85% decrease from the year before. In sharp contrast to declining public school figures, enrollment in charter schools rose 4.5% to more than 52,000.

In 2022, there was roughly one teacher for every 14 students in a Wisconsin classroom, compared to the national average of 1:16. AAA State of Play considered Wisconsin to have the 14th best teacher to student ratio in the U.S.
