White students were the most represented ethnic group within Vilas County schools in the 2024-25 school year, according to the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction.

Of the 2,601 students attending Vilas County schools, 70.9% were white. American Indian students were the second largest ethnicity, making up 17.8% of Vilas County students.

In the previous school year, white students were also the most common group in Vilas County, representing 71.4% of the student body.

Countywide, Arbor Vitae-Woodruff Elementary School had the most even distribution of races, which included 80.7% white students, 8.4% American Indian students, 5.3% multiracial students, 4.9% Hispanic students, 0.6% Asian students, and 0.2% Pacific Islander students.

In the 2024-25 school year, the total number of students enrolled in public schools in the county remained the same the previous year.

Wisconsin ranks 22nd in the U.S. for public education spending, with an annual expenditure of over $16,500 per pupil, totaling $13.8 billion.
