In 2024-25 school year, white students had highest representation in Iron County districts

The majority of students in Iron County districts were white in the 2024-25 school year, according to the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction.

Of the 636 students attending Iron County district schools, 90.6% were white. Multiracial students were the second largest ethnic group within Iron County's districts, making up 5% of the student body.

In the previous school year, white students were also the most common group in Iron County districts, representing 90.2% of the student body.

Hurley School District had the most diverse student body in the county, which included American Indian, Asian, African American, Hispanic, multiracial, and white.

In the 2024-25 school year, the total number of students enrolled in school districts in the county dropped to 4.4% compared to the previous year.

The main offices of all districts mentioned in the story are located in cities associated with Iron County.

Wisconsin's lawmakers have approved over $5.5 billion in funding for schools for the 2024-25 school year, a 4.2% increase from the previous year. The budget allocates an additional $325 per pupil aid for each year of the biennium, as well as more than $90 million in increased funding for special education.
